I am sure the fan was for some kind of secret (maybe an easter egg) but I already have all the stars so I can't imagine what was all that for. I thought you would need that fan to have a very high connector to be accessible from the rest of the map or from another level but I did not notice any secrets nor I needed an extra connector to beat the other levels. Often they are placed beyond the levels with the sigils, but sometimes you must do specific actions in the level to get the star that is hidden outside it. Stars can be found behind closed doors, hidden passages, in places hard to get to.
